About the Exec

What is The Exec?
The Cinema Exec consists of eleven students who work really hard to make sure the cinema run's smoothly and the best films are shown.

However the Cinema is more than a place of work, the exec has and probably will always be a group of students that are friends and not just colleagues. It's full of gossip, drama and of course, laughter.

The positions that the exec currently holds are below. You can find out more information about the exec members themselves by going to The Exec.

President
You're in charge and ultimately responsible for the Cinema. You have to understand how the Cinema is run and be able to do the other Exec. jobs if people are missing. You sit on the Union Council and will be responsible for continuing to meet with the Union and the University in order to improve the office and the theatre. You deal with all things that don't fit into anyone else's job, which tends to be quite a lot - like organising the fresher's fair stand. You are a signatory on the finance account. Previous experience of running a society or being on the Cinema Exec is a definite advantage.

Treasurer
Manages the cash from refreshments and film showings, does the banking and fills out a financial report each week for the Finance office. Deals with paying invoices, collects the cheques and sends them off. Will have to produce the accounts to be presented at the AGM. Again a signatory on the finance account.

Chief Projectionist
Looks after and cleans the projector (and the box) and ensures that the box doesn't run out of projectionist supplies. Organises regular services, of the projector, by the engineers from OMNEX. Sorts out the projectionist rota each term. Also fills in the gaps in the rota and trains trainee projectionists. Is responsible for carrying out the solos with the trainees. Fills in the ad returns so that the advertisers can send us advert reels. MUST BE A TRAINED PROJECTIONIST TO APPLY.

Films Booking Officer
A knowledge of films and their release dates is preferable but not essential (Empire magazine subscription helps here). Fills in the film returns each week and sends them to Film Quest. Records viewing figures in, and maintains, the FBO's book. Also in charge of ordering the trailers and posters.

Chief Steward
Organises the associate and House Managing rotas, makes sure there are stewards at each film, organising replacements or standing-in, in person, in the gaps. Trains the stewards and has the power to sack them if they are not doing their job properly. Other responsibilities include buying refreshments and making sure that the society has enough in stock.

Secretary
Takes the minutes of each Exec. meeting. Acts as the Chief Returning Officer and organizes the elections. Is also a signatory on the finance account.

Publicity Officer
Publicity officer has several responsibilities. Twice a term he/she produces the film schedule and other additional information about the Cinema and make sure they are distributed around campus. Also in charge of putting up and updating the film posters around campus. Is assisted by the publicity team (and is in charge of it) and must be willing to help them with there duties. Ability to think creatively to improve the image of the cinema would be handy but not a requirement.

ePublicity Officer
The e-Publicity Officer main responsibilty is to maintain the website, including the films list and database and ensuring the Cinema Office's PC is running smoothly. Creating the slides that are watched before a film is shown, and any other technical things that the exec think you should know!

If you are interested in joining the society to be on the exec in the future please contact the Secretary for more information.
