15-11-04 - World Film Week

Week 7 starts our termly world film week special. Nominated in the European Film Awards is the Spanish "Bad Education" An examination on the effect of Franco-era religious schooling and sexual abuse on the lives of two longtime friends.

The British entry, and winner of the Kodak Award for Best Cinematography in the Dinard British Film Festival is "The Football Factory" which follows a forgotten culture of Anglo Saxon males fed up with being told they're not good enough, using thier fists as a drug they describe as being more potent than sex and drugs put together.

Japan provides the 2004 Award of the Japanese Academy nominated "Battle Royale 2". This starts 3 years after the events in "Battle Royale" where a well-known terrorist bent on bringing down the government. This initiates the creation of the "Battle Royale 2" program which creates a class of junior-high students to catch and kill him.

The French "Les Diables" finishes the week off. This 2002 double Avignon Film Festival award winning movie tells about a little 12 year old boy, Joseph, who's trying to reach his parents' house with his autistic sister, Chloe.
