Safety Information

LUSU has a strong commitment towards the safety of its members. We have several procedures and policies in place to ensure that all activities are carried out safely and still contain the element of fun. We are not here to say no, we work towards making all activities as safe as possible.

It is important to avoid the possibility of anyone being injured as a result of negligence. This is why we provide the information and assistance to student officers who are responsible for organising events and activities on behalf of other students.

We hold annual Duty of Care briefings as part of New Officer Training and also produce a Safety Framework booklet (see below). Both the briefing and the booklet are aimed at giving you information about your responsibilities and help and guidance for running your activities safely.

Joint Responsibility

Please be aware that keeping up to date and making your activity safer is the responsibility of both you and LUSU. You should be making every effort to become aware of the safety issues relaveant to any event or activity you might be organising and if necessary draw them to our attention. Don't wait for us to take the initiative if you think something needs to be done better tell us.

Take it seriously...We do.

We run briefings relatively rarely where safety is concerned but when we do run them attendance is compulsory. Please make sure you know when they are and where they are and that the right people attend them and then if you need to do something afterwards make sure you do it. We have your interests in mind.

If you are in any doubt about your planned activities or events and the safety matters associated then come to the Student Activities Office and ask. We are here to guide you and if we don't know the answer then we will make every effort to find out for you.
