Officer Training
Running a Society can be pretty scary, but fear not because there is training available to help you out. The socicieties handbook is also a good resource to help you as an exec.
There will be exec training sessions run during the year, the dates and information will be displayed here when it is all finalised. Keep checking back to so that you don't miss out!
Food Safety Training
There is training available in food safety and any society which prepares food (including BBQ's) must have a food safety trained person present during all food preparation. The course is certified by the Royal Institute of Public Health and covers the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. The participant will receive a recognised certificate upon successful completion.
The course costs £15; LUSU will be supporting the costs by a third (excluding finalists), therefore the society and the individual will need to pay the remaining £10.
Finalists can do the course however they will not get the third subsidy from LUSU because they will be leaving the University soon after completing the course.
To pay come into the Activities Office and see Alisdair Denholm.
The course will be as follows; there will be an hours introduction session, then the participant will have two weeks to complete the online course in their own time, and at the end there will be an hours session on how to relate the course to what the society does. Courses will be run throughout the year and there will be approximately 20 places on each course.
The courses will be at the following times:
Course 1: Tuesday 14th October 13:00-14:00 with the final lecture on Tuesday 28th October 13:00-14:00
Course 2: Wednesday 12th November 13:00-14:00 with the final lecture on Wednesday 26th November 13:00-14:00

Website Training
LUSU is now using a new website system based on wordpress which is much more exciting and user friendly than the old abacus system and has lots more features. If you have a website on the LUSU domain and want to transfer to wordpress, or would like one, members of the exec will need to go on a website training course to understand how to edit the site. One member of the exec will be responsible for the site however other members of the exec can also go on the training course. The course lasts 3 hours and includes how to use wordpress and the basic principles of good website design.
Sessions are organised on a need basis so if you need people training please contact LUSU Online (IT Department)
If an exec member wants to attend a training session then LUSU Online will need the following information:
Name of the person attending.
Which society they are associated with.
Do you already have an Abacus website set up? if so it's address.
Will they be the chief web site editor/owner.
Societies New Officer Training
This event is important for all society execs, it is designed to give execs the skills they will need to run a successful society; so don't miss out the chance to gain these skills for free!
The event is based around the exec positions that all societies have, however there will be some sessions for other positions; so when you have elections make sure the candidates are aware of this training.
