Constitution of the Environment Committee

B34.1 The Environment Committee shall be a sub-committee of the Union Council.
B34.2 The membership of the Committee shall be as follows:
a) a sabbatical officer of the union appointed for a minimum period of one term
b) the Green Officer of the Union
c) the Environment Officer, or other executive committee member with responsibility for environmental issues, from each college JCR and the GSA
d) one further non-sabbatical officer of the Union, elected annually by the Union Council
e) five further members of the Union, re-elected annually by the Environment Committee
f) The Unions Environment Coordinator, whom shall be non-voting
g) In attendance: One representative from each environmentally concerned LUSU society whom shall be non voting
h) In attendance: Any other interested member of LUSU, whom shall be non voting
B34.3 The committee shall be convened by the Green Officer of the Union. Chairing responsibilities shall be shared among the members of the committee.
B34.4 The aims and objects of the committee shall be to:
a) develop and update the Union's environmental policy and define its implementation;
b) run continual awareness-raising campaigns through providing information and activities on issues of concern on and off campus;
c) make the campus a sustainable unit by co-operating with students, university groups, standing university committees and other universities;
d) promote facilities on campus such as the organic garden;
e) the committee is too work in conjunction with the Unions Environment Coordinator
B34.5 To further these aims the committee shall offer advice and suggestions to:
a) the Environment Officer of the Union on the use of his / her budget;
b) the General Secretary of the Union on the use of those parts of his / her budget relating to campaigns;
c) the Shops Management Group of the Union on their purchasing policy.
B34.6 The committee shall meet at least five times each academic term. At least two days notice shall be given of each meeting.
B34.7 The quorum of the committee shall be at least six of its members.
