What is the GSA
Area maintained by Antony Chung
The GSA is the representative body for the Graduate College of Lancaster University. All postgraduate students at the University are members. The GSA Executive Committee runs the GSA and is made up of postgraduate students and we seek to look after the needs of all of us - be they academic, social, sporting or in relation to accommodation.
The current executive committee was formed following the elections at the end of 2007. You can see who is on the committee here. Please contact us if you need our help.
What is the GSA?
All students at Lancaster University belong to a college. Undergraduates are split into the various colleges on campus. Postgraduates all belong to the same college: Graduate College.
The student body in each college is represented as a JCR, except for Graduate College where this is known as the GSA. The GSA (and JCRs) form parts of the student union (LUSU).
All postgraduate students at Lancaster (PhD, MSc, full-time, part-time, etc) are automatically members of the GSA, regardless of whether you live in Graduate College or off-campus.
The GSA is run by a committee of students (the Exec), elected each year in late October. It is funded by Lancaster University Students' Union and by the income it generates from its own operations, such as social events and games machines within Graduate College. The GSA also maintains close links with the Graduate College and its Principal, and the Lancaster University Graduate School and its Director.
Get Involved!
Ultimately, the success of the GSA each year depends on the level of involvement from Graduate students at Lancaster. You can find out more about our activities by visiting the desks that we will be operating during Intro Week, checking out the events page, or by contacting us directly.
Please make the most of your time here at Lancaster and get involved with GSA activities. Whether you want to get involved with the committee, attend social events or play sport for Graduate College, any amount of participation helps. We look forward to meeting you and hope that your time at Lancaster is a happy and enjoyable one.
International students
The Graduate College has the greatest proportion of international students of any of the Colleges at Lancaster with almost 100 countries represented. To reflect this, the GSA has an Ethnic and National Diversity Officer, who organises social events for international students, addresses welfare problems and issues affecting international students and acts as liaisons between the GSA and the University's International Office.
