The Lancaster University transport page has a lot of information and links about all means of transportation. There is also a summary of transport options.
Cycling
Secure and covered cycle storage in Graduate College is available for a £ 10 deposit - ask in the Residence Office.
Budgie Bike Hire available from LUSU Shop from £ 1.50 per hour.
Walking
It takes just over an hour to walk to the Lancaster City centre, either along the cycle routes, or along the A6 main road.
Bus
The Stagecoach website has bus schedules for all bus routes in Lancaster. Timetables are also available from the LUSU reception or on the buses themselves.
To get to town take the 2/2A (from the underpass only), 3, and 4. 3 & 4 both go from Southwest Campus, and are the most direct buses to the city centre. The X1 bus goes directly to the train station.
The bus timetable has greatly reduced service outside of the undergraduate term time, especially in the evenings and weekends from South-West campus.
- Single: £ 1.20
- Single (to/from SW): £ 1.30
- Same-day return: £ 1.90
- A DayRider pass that gives you unlimited bus travel in Lancaster and Morecambe on one day, and a weekly pass, are available to buy on any bus - think how many trips you have to make and whether it is worth it.
- Unlimited bus passes for 1, 2 or 3 terms are available from LUSU.
A women's bus is operated from the underpass to any destination.
A free bus to Sainsbury's supermarket operates on Wednesday afternoons in term-times.

- 01524 848848
- 01524 32090
- 01524 60000

Many firms have city-centre offices, or use taxi ranks near the bus station, train station and near the Sugarhouse, Liquid and Toast nightclubs.
Tipping taxi drivers is not obligatory, or particularly expected in the UK, so it's up to you. If a driver has given you a pleasant journey and/or helped you with your bags, then a 10% tip might be appropriate.
The Students' Union run a deposit scheme so that you can get home safely after a night out even if you don't have any money on you: A1 taxis, (tel: 01524 35666, located near Bella Italita) will take your student ID with the cost of the ride, plus £ 1 payable at the LUSU information desk the next day where your ID will be returned.
Apart from trains, several firms run taxis to Manchester & other airports including:
- 01524 420042
- 01524 33753
- 01524 33172
