Does it cost me to use Nightline?
Nightline is a free service provided by trained volunteers. If you are on campus and call from an internal phone, there is no cost to you. If you call from an external line, your call will be charged at either local/national rate depending where you call us from. If you call from an external line, Nightline generates no income from a specific phone call.
Do Nightliners get paid?
Nightliners are all student volunteers who give up their time for free for their fellow students. You will learn a range of skills via professionally run training sessions.
Do you have to be really sad and depressed to call?
Nightline accepts calls on any subject, some people ring because they are sad, others because they are stressed, bored, lonely, homesick, or simply want to tell someone some good news.
Isn't Nightline the same as the Counselling Service?
Nightliners don't give advice and they don't counsel. They are there to listen and to help the caller decide if they want/don't want to do anything.
Does Nightline have a drop-in service?
Although some Nightlines at other universities offer this service, at Lancaster this is no longer available due to health and safety reasons.
