The Five Tenets of Nightline

Nightline operates under five tenets which will apply to every phone call we receive. They are for the benifit of the callers, the individual Nightliners, and Nightline as an Organisation.

1. Anonymity

Remaining anomymous allows callers to tell the Nightliner anything without the fear that they will meet or bump into them. It protects individual views becoming associated with Nightline. Therefore, Nightliners will generally avoid giving any personal information to maintain anonymity. Again, if you call, you don't have to give any personal information yourself if you so wish.

2. Confidentiality

Anything discussed whilst calling Nightline remains totally confidential. It is between you as a caller and the Nightliner on the call. No one else will know about your call, and it won't be recorded.

3. Non - Judgemental

Nightline neither condones nor condemns callers view. We are not here to judge anyone. We are here to listen. A caller can freely express any view they hold without fear of judgement from the Nightliner.

4. Non - Directive

We are not trained to give specific advice, we are here to listen. This does not mean we cannot help resolve issues. For example, if a caller is feeling depressed, we cannot make their decisions for them or tell them what to do. However, we can discuss and explore your feelings and thoughts, and provide relavent information and further contacts.

5. Empathy

Nightliners aim to understand the caller's situation from the caller's perspective, not their own. Empathy reassures the caller that it's OK to feel as they do and that the Nightliner cares about how they feel.
