Thursday

First up to tell you about, there will be a Fair Trade stand inside of Alex Square. It has been there alot of the past fortnight, as part of Fair Trade fortnight, and it returns as part of One World Week. I'm sure you all know enough about fair trade, so how about going down and instead of a Mars Bar, get a Fair Trade chocolate bar. And Fair Trade Orange Juice (In my opinion...) tastes better than mot other orange juices. Try it!

Also, to highlight the plight of Palestinians in the land of Israel, there will be an Israeli checkpoint around on campus. If you get stopped by it, do stop a moment to think about the Palestinians who have to face this as part of their daily routine.

Following up the theme of Palestine, there will be a film showing in the Chaplaincy Centre quiet room. (12:30/2:30) Palestine Is Still The Issue. In a series of extraordinary interviews with both Palestinians and Israelis, John Pilger weaves together the issue of Palestine. He speaks to the families of suicide bombers and their victims; he sees the humiliation of Palestinians imposed on them at myriad checkpoints and with a permit system not dissimilar to apartheid South Africa's infamous pass laws. He goes into the refugee camps and meets children who, he says, "no longer dream like other children, or if they do, it is about death."

Tere will also be a guest speaker in George Fox LT 1 about Palestine as well. 7pm for those who want to check it out. See the posters around campus for more information!
