Application Guidelines

It will be the society's responsibility to show the Societies Union Executive Committee that they will be a legitimate society, and that they will be able to provide a service to their membership. All new societies must submit an application to SUEC. There must be a membership list showing at least 20 student members handed in with the application form.

· The Societies Union Executive Committee will not consider applications where the societies council membership is already at maximum capacity.

· The Societies Union Executive Committee will not approve societies with aims and objectives considered to be similar to existing societies.

· The aims and objectives of the society will not conflict with the Union's constitution or be ultra-virees in any way.

· The Societies Union Executive Committee will not consider societies that exist for the purpose of generating commercial income.

· All societies must hold all their money in the LUSU Finance Office

· All members of the society's 'Executive' must be students at Lancaster University. Societies must inform the Activities Developer of any change in their Executive Committee

· All societies must submit a Society Application Form and a list of their members (names and Library Card number) to the General Secretary.

· A proposal must be submitted outlining how the society will serve its members throughout the remainder of the academic year. This proposal should contain details of events and meetings.

· Any societies requiring flat-floor space to perform their activities must produce evidence of where this space will be.

· All societies must write a constitution and must submit this to the General Secretary at least 5 working days before the arranged meeting with the Societies Union Executive Committee.

· Each society must make an appointment with the Student Activities Office to discuss Duty of Care. This appointment must be made before the SUEC meeting but will be arranged to take place at a time after this meeting has taken place.

There is no registration deadline because new applications can be considered at any time. When applying please make sure you submit all of the required documents to the General Secretary.

Any society having expressed an interest in setting up should already have contacted the General Secretary and will be invited to attend a meeting to give a short presentation justifying the need for their society.
