Taster Sessions

The sports that are included in the Carter Shield sporting programme are not always ones that students have played before, and in some cases even heard of, or they may have played them but do not feel confident. These sessions have been set up to provide a way for the Sports Reps to recruit players for their teams and at the same time allow individuals the chance to enjoy sport, make new friends and encourage them to become involved with college rivalry.

Where are the taster sessions?

They will take place in the sports centre or on the outside facilities in the summer term. Just go to the reception in the sports centre and you will be directed to the main hall.

What sports can I try out in the first term?

Dodgeball

Women's Indoor Football

Korfball

Volleyball

What sports can I try out in the second term?

Pop Lacrosse

Basketball

Aeroball

Table Tennis

What sports can I try out in the 3rd term?

Frisbee

Rounders

Touch Rugby

When are they taking place?

Sunday 19th October

Sunday 26th October

Sunday 25th January

Sunday 1st February

Sunday 10th May

How much will it cost me?

Nothing apart from your time. There will be no charge made by the sports centre nor will you need to show your sports centre membership card or purple card.

What should I wear?

Appropriate footwear such as trainers and clothing you feel comfortable in such as comfy trousers, shorts, track suit trousers, sweastshirt or t shirt.

What if I have never played the sport before?

Please do not worry about this as the whole point of the sessions is to offer the opportunity to students to try the sports out with a view to wanting to be part of your college team in the official Carter Shield competition. There will be instruction and rules explained for all the sports.

Will I be able to come to more than one session?

Yes, of course, as this will allow training time for the teams running up to the competition day.

What time do I have to be there?

The sessions run from 1pm through to 4:30pm and you are able to join in at any time although don't forget to allow enough time to try all the sports especially as some of them only allow for a small number of players at once.
