WHAT I DO

I'm here to represent, campaign for, and help all the women students at Lancaster University. I work with the JCRs and GSA, Equal Opportunities Officers, Women's Officers and Female Education and Welfare Officers to run campaigns focused on issues that can affect women. My job is to make sure that everyone on campus is fairly represented and treated the same. With the rest of the members of the LUSU advice centre I work as part of a team ensuring that people have somewhere to go to for information and support on a wide variety of issues. I deal with many things from harassment to unfair representation of women on university panels.

The women's campaign is a campaign for all the women on campus so if you have any ideas on campaigns you would like to be run or things you think should be highlighted I am more than happy to listen and take on board new ideas!

WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU

Coming to University is a big transition, and it's important for you to know that you are not alone. I am part of a wider support network at the university to help you get through any problems you might have. Hopefully your time at Uni will be happy and problem free. But if anything does occur however big or small I am here to help! I can point in the right direction, support you through dealing with your issues, or just be a listen ear someone you can turn to when you just want to talk. So if you do feel like having a chat just pop into my office in the LUSU building, I'm always happy to lend an ear, after all that's what I'm here for!

WHAT'S THE WOMEN'S GROUP?

The women’s group aims to make a network of women who are passionate about campaigning on women's rights and issues. It could be that you want to collect a few signatures for a petition, or hand out a few leaflets to friends, or maybe you're really keen and have an idea of a campaign you want to run with the help of the LUSU Women's Officer and the college women's officers? You might be able to commit a lot of time or you may only be able to commit a smaller amount of time; either way the Women's Group is for you! Email su-womens@lancaster.ac.uk for more information and to get involved.

WHAT'S THE WOMEN'S CAMPAIGN?

The Union has two women's officers, myself, the sabbatical (full time) and Sarah Baguley, the non sabbatical (part time). We work together with all the JCR and GSA Women's officers, female Education and Welfare Officers and female Equal Opportunities Officers to ensure that women are equally represented across the entire university. The women’s campaign organises events for awareness raising or fundraising. These events are co-ordinated by the Women’s Campaign Committee. If you would like to know more about this committee then check out the section labelled ‘Women’s Campaign Committee’.

If you would like to get more involved in the women’s campaign then you can stand for election in your college or for the union. If you don’t fancy that, but want to get more involved, there is a women’s group. See the details of this in the section below.

This is the women’s handbook, and it is for you. It is full of information on LUSU, services and general health, safety and advice. I have tried to cover most things, but if there is something missing or something that you would like more information on in the handbook, then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
