A student with a disability is anyone who self defines as having a disability, which can cover anything from a visual impairment, mental illness, dyslexia to a mobility difficulty.

My Job...

Is to represent the rights and views of students with disabilities in the union and to liaise with the University to try to fix any problems that arise. To ensure I'm representing the views and discussing the issues that matter most to SWD students.

I also chair a forum three times a term which anyone who self defines as having a disability can attend. I know coming to an officer hour or forum may intimidate some people or perhaps you just can't get either of them so I also have an email address lusudisabled@lancaster.ac.uk where you can get in contact with me.

As well as representing SWD students, I can also provide useful information on what is available to you within the Union and the University as a whole. I work closely with many of the university's support systems for students with disabilities, including student support, the library and the SLDC. If you are unsure as to where to get the support you need, I can point you in the right direction. If you have a an issue that you want to resolve but don't feel comfortable or confidence about speaking to the appropriate people personally I can talk to them for you or come with you if that would help. I'm here for you to talk to no matter how big or small the issue may seem, even if you just want a moan (in the strictest confidence). As someone with a disability hopefully I have an understanding of many of the issues you may come across and some of the ways round them. If I can't assist you I will try to find someone who can.

Lancaster is full of opportunities and sources of help. I want to do everything I can to enable you to get the most out of what is available, but I can only directly contact those on LUSU SWD (confidential) database.
